Explaining the Moderate UV/X-Ray Correlation in AGN

Abstract The UV/optical and X-ray variability of active galactic nuclei (AGN) have long been expected to be well correlated as a result the illumination accretion disk. Recent monitoring campaigns nearby AGN, however, found that their emission are only moderately correlated, challenging aforementioned paradigm. In this work, we aim demonstrate due definition cross-correlation function, low UV/X-ray correlation is in case an illuminated disk, when dynamic source taken into account. particular, examine how geometric or physical configuration affects correlation. Variations produce range cross correlations, which match observed values, while they high between UV optical variability, reconciling results with theoretical predictions. We conclude detection does not contradict assumption being driven by discuss implications our for studies.
